AIRE DE BARDENAS: WINDOWS OVERLOOKING A FIELD OF WHEAT

The cierzo, a wind from the north-west that blows through the Bardenas Reales de Navarra, violently lashes the wheat fields in the middle of which stands the Aire de Bardenas hotel. This four-star hotel is located near the nature reserve, a barren paradise that resembles Arizona more than the northern part of the peninsula, just 3 km (2 miles) from the town of Tudela. The hotel opens onto a unique landscape, as serene as it is austere, that invites you to relax as, comfortably settled in your room, you let your eyes wander. When you wake in the morning to contemplate this landscape of the arid Bardenas on one side and the irrigated fields of the Ribera Tudelana and the Ebro on the other, you’ll understand. Thanks to its light architecture, the hotel blends in with the landscape, just like the region’s agricultural structures. Peace, nature and design are the key words to describe this avant-garde construction by architects Mónica Rivera and Emiliano López. The hotel’s originality lies in its curious habitable windows. In fact, the rooms are protected patios that give you the feeling of being outdoors (or perhaps it’s the outdoors that is creeping into the room?). The windows serve, in turn, as sofas, an extra bed, or a corner where you can read, take a nap, or watch TV on one of the built-in screens. Another distinctive feature is the large double bath in one of the suites, and then there’s the metal bathtub on the patio of one of the cubes. “We offer our guests these unique and luxurious services so they can fully enjoy the rural atmosphere, the austere beauty that surrounds the hotel, and the mystic nature of the Bardenas landscape,” states Natalia Pérez, the hotel manager and owner.
